Q: When did you decide to start taking pictures? A: I started when I was a child but I started seriously in 2008 with my first reflex.
Q: What does photography mean to you?
A: Photography for me is a journey
Q: Can you recall the first photo you took that made you go WOW!?
A: For the standards I have, that moment still has to arrive.
Q: Do you have any formal training regarding photography?
A: Yeah, the street!
Q: How technical is your photography?
A: I think that technical must be always servicing your inner creation. In street photography
you don't have time to indulge in the technical, everything has to be configured before the
release of the shutter.
Q: How do you feel about cropping?
A: A necessary evil.
Q: Where is your favorite place to live and work as a photographer in the World and why?
A: Soon I will return to live in the City of Mexico. Yeah, Mexico City center is one of the best
places in the world to make street photography.
Q: Define the word "beauty"!
A: Beauty is my wife.
Q: How does your personality change when you look through the camera?
A: It does not. Rather, I must strive to balance my heart and mind before every click.
Q: How do you feel about missed shots which cannot be recreated?
A: Frustration.
Q: Who are your influences?
A: My influences are Henri Cartier Bresson, Joel Meyerowitz, Stephen Shore, Markus Hartel,
Walker Evans, Garry Winogrand, Dorothea Lange, Edward Hopper, Helen Levitt, but also
Motorhead, Ramones, Charles Bukowski, Charles Dickens and David Lynch.
Q: What is your favorite image, either your own or someone else's or both? Describe its
creation or meaning to you?
A: My favorite is the picture at the start of the blog of the kid. A shot taken in Mexico City, a day before my marriage. Of the others… random images of Markus Hartel
Q: Describe a day in your personal or photographic life.A: There is not a lot to say. Bag Preparation, go out, on return immediately transfer the photos to the computer.
Q: What are the biggest personal or photographic challenges you face on a daily basis?
A: To devoted every day to tacking photos is a challenge, making images on the road with all its innumerable variables.
Q: What has been the single biggest obstacle against growing as a photographer in whole?
A: I have not evolved myself completely as a photographer to be able to tell you. But that moment perhaps will arrive and then ask me again.
Q: What are your favoritism subjects to photograph?
A: Street Photography is my religion. But I love shooting minimal subjects, urban landscape in the vain of Stephen Shore and William Eggleston.
Q: Have you ever thought about or actually stopped doing photography? What were the circumstances?
A: I believe it is normal to think about every now and then. However I tell myself that photography is part of me.
Q: Do you ever have photographer's block and if yes how do you deal with it?
A: Oh, yeah! The last 2 weeks ... I wait for it to pass, I stop making images and I look at the work of others.
Q: Describe what black and white photography means to you?
A: Black and white are the colors of photography. Robert Frank
Q: Do you think of yourself as an artist and what do you think of the word artist?
A: Yeah, I think to myself like an artist. What level, others must say.
Q: How do you describe your photographic style?A: Pure instinct but with heart and mind
Q: Tell a little secret about yourself that no-one knows ...
A: No way!
Q: Who or what would you love to shoot that you haven't already?
A: I’ve got an urban project inside of me: I’ll realize it when I return to Mexico City.
Q: What would you have done differently during your photography career so far and could this be an advice to others?A: I would not change anything. All serves.
Q: How do you feel about digital manipulation and to what extent do you utilize it?
A: I don’t like heavy post work for my photography. But I recognize that in other kinds
of images, manipulation is fundamental.
Q: What method/software do you use to convert your images to black and white?
A: I use Adobe lightroom. Sometimes I use a preset for this software.
Q: Final question, which equipment and why ?A: I’ve sold all of my reflex equipment! Now I shot only with Olympus Pen E-P1 and pancake
17mm f/2.8. I’ve got also a compact: Panasonic Lumix LX3. A consciuos choice and
conditioned, my experience in Mexico has led me to use more discreet equipments. For my photography and attitude this choice is perfect!
